What Happens After Christmas

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

After all of the running around to prepare for and then survive the ‘silly season’ I have one more night before Christmas is officially over.  I am writing this post across from my Christmas tree admiring the flashing white and red lights one last time.

Tomorrow I will remove the silver tinsel nestling behind brightly coloured red balls.  I will unwind the flickering lights from the prickly green branches and dismantle the Christmas tree. I will take the decorations down from the door and off of my dining table.  I will pack everything away in my Sharpie labeled boxes until December 1.  Next I’ll re-arrange my living room, sweep and mop.  Christmas is gone and I breathe a little easier because I have 11 months before repeating this process all over again.

But after I’ve done everything, I’m going to take a wonderful moment to sit on my couch with a cup of tea as I reflect on this promise from the book of Matthew … because after Christmas, a little rest after feeling weary will be very very good.
