When is a rainbow not a rainbow?

Double Rainbow Promise in Barbados | Photo by Gale E

I couldn’t believe it!  A double rainbow!  I rushed to take a photo and was glad I did because they both disappeared into thin air in less than five minutes.  What do you think of when you see a rainbow?  Are you depressed because more rain might be coming or are you thankful the earth is being watered so you can enjoy the amazing beauty of nature?

I love rainbows.  They distract me from the chaos and confusion which sometimes reigns in my world, and remind me of God’s faithfulness especially His promise never to destroy the earth again.  The more vibrant in colour the more grateful I am to be able to see and appreciate such beauty.  And we all know that if you look hard enough, you will always find your pot of gold at the end of your special rainbow (just depends what kind of ‘gold’ you are looking for).

So when is a rainbow not a rainbow?  When it’s a beautiful shiny amazing double rainbow of course!  So here’s wishing you lots and lots of beautiful rainbows after your seasons of rain, and the hope that you will always remember God’s faithfulness in the midst of the storm.

Then God said, “I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living creatures, for all generations to come. I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth. When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds, and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the floodwaters destroy all life. When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.” Then God said to Noah, “Yes, this rainbow is the sign of the covenant I am confirming with all the creatures on earth.”

Genesis 9:12-17
