When is something considered art? And how do we as individuals define a work as art? Is it a physical picture painted on a canvas or is it the creative use of materials to present a thought?
This week’s photo challenge encouraged us to: “share a photo of something that’s art to you. It could be some actual “art,” like a painting by your grandmother or the misshapen but perfect clay sculpture your child brought home from kindergarden, or something most people wouldn’t consider beautiful at all, but that has meaning to you. The important thing is that it’s art in your eyes.”
I think art involves expression and lies in the eye of the beholder as well as its creator i.e. it’s what we as individuals believe it to be, and so I am sharing some examples of what I consider to be ‘art’.
The first illustration shown immediately below is edible art. Would you believe this ‘orchid in a plant pot’ is really a chocolate iced cake? And that the little succulent plants surrounding it are also cakes? The orchid looked so real that one of the guests at this tea party was about to throw ice from his glass into the ‘soil’ in the ‘pot’. Good thing I was there to stop him before it was too late!

Art definitely involves some form of creativity and in Haiti, the artists are known for creating amazing works of arts from various types of materials e.g. old tyres, tree bark, recycled metal, and beads. Here are some photos of art featured at the Best Western Hotel.

In the Bahamas, we were able to see an artist actually creating art from wood in the form of figurines; pure talent!
And last but not least, my favourite ‘art’ for dieters – enjoy!

beautiful pics and wow those cakes….had to re-read to confirm that i read right the first time 🙂
