“And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been.” Rainer Maria Rilke
One of my resolutions for 2015 is to learn new skills. I’ve even decided to be specific and selected a few categories e.g.:
- blogging techniques
- cooking
- photography
- gardening
- teenager parenting 😐
- short story/poetry writing
- decorating
I didn’t include it above but I’m also working (like very very hard) on the skill of listening more and talking less aka restraining this little pink gun on the inside of my mouth. Stay tuned for a post to be written/published soon entitled: “The Taming of Gale’s Tongue” but I digress …
So I’m finally participating in the WordPress Blogging 101: Zero to Hero course and one of the assignments included some tips on how to embed photos and videos as well as tweets into your blog posts. Of special interest were the instructions on embedding stuff from Instagram and Pinterest – I was like ‘wow, you can actually do this?!!!’
This post then serves two purposes: it’s my submission for the WordPress Photo Challenge: New as well as the Blogging 101: Zero to Hero course. Yet if I’m honest, the main purpose could be to simply share some stuff from my Pinterest account (and keep this big grin on my face because the embedding thingy actually works). Here goes.
Sticks and Stones … and Words
There is a saying that sticks and stones may break your bones but words will never harm you. Nothing can be further from the truth! A harsh word, a vicious rumor, a white lie which becomes a black betrayal – all of these can cut you like a knife deep in the gut, rendering your life totally changed forever. Having been on the receiving end of biting words and accusations, I’ve taken to collecting life inspiring and encouraging quotes.
Here are a few of the ones I’ve actually pinned:
Here’s one of my absolute favourites on writing (cause I love me some Tony Stark!): 🙂
If you’re on Pinterest you can check out my profile here:
NB: if you are a blogger wishing to share your Pinterest life click here for instructions on how to embed from Pinterest; and then go here: ‘New’ photos to see other entries in the WordPress challenge.
To close this post out, I’m wondering: have you made any resolutions for 2015? Do any of them include learning a new skill or adopting a different train of thought? Are you struggling to ‘tame your tongue’? Leave me a comment … or two 🙂
And because I couldn’t resist, here are some photos of me trying on new shoes in a store … can you guess which pair I bought?

Gale – thanks for coming by to visit my post and leaving me a link to your post!
Hmm. . . the silver shoes? I love the glitter on those.
Your word is great and you should have a lot of fun with it, regardless of how it goes. I’m working on a post for tomorrow on my word, which is “create”. I don’t usually post so closely together, but there is another post going up at 8 am tomorrow that I need to link to.
I look forward to seeing how your year goes!
Nancy
P.S. I will respond to your comment on my post, but probably not tonight.

Nancy, you got it right: the glitter won out. Will look out for your posts and am sure it will be a good year for both of us 🙂
