Dear Son, here’s how I know I’m not a good mom

Dear Son

I know you have strong opinions of how life should and should not be and I know you can never understand why I say the things I say. So this letter is just to confirm:

  1. I am not a good mom when I tell you to clean your room.
  2. I am not a good mom when I tell you no, you can’t go to the party.
  3. I am not a good mom when I tell you to stop playing that video game and start studying – now.
  4. I am not a good mom when I tell you to eat your vegetables.
  5. I am not a good mom when I tell you to stop fridge gazing and just take what you want without wasting electricity.
  6. I am not a good mom when I tell you not to eat everything in sight just because it’s there.
  7. I am not a good mom when I tell you not to be rude when sharing your opinions.
  8. I am not a good mom when I tell you not to spend all of your money in one go.
  9. I am not a good mom when I tell you not to forget others who are less fortunate than you are.
  10. I am not a good mom when I tell you I’m not being hard on you, I’m just being your mom.

BUT deep down in your heart you know I’m a good mom because one day you will have your own children, and you will look back on this post and smile, because all of the reasons I’ve noted above (and the ones I haven’t) will become yours – and you will be a GOOD dad.

Love you forever and always

Mom

 XOXOXO
