Even if it doesn’t look that way, we are all blessed in one way or another. That’s why in this period of severe financial stressors, relationship upheavals and career constriction, now is the time to not only thank God for our blessings but to pay them forward, especially since Proverbs 11:25 tells us that “The generous will prosper; those that water others will themselves be watered.”
But maybe you are not sure exactly how to pass your blessings on to friends and family. These 5 simple (easy and painless) tips plus a bonus can get you started:
- Call someone you know who is unemployed. Find out how they are doing and if you can do anything to help. Pray for them.
- Volunteer to help someone with young children by babysitting one evening or maybe a day on the weekend so they can get some time for themselves. Pray for them.
- Arrange to spend some quality time particularly with an elderly relative. Encourage them to talk about the past and their lives when they were growing up (while you hold their hand and give them your undivided attention). Pray with and for them.
- Surprise a co-worker with a cookie, muffin, apple, book or a greeting card – just because. Pray for them.
- Find an inspirational quote or bible verse and forward it to a big group of people via e-mail to brighten up their day. Pray for them.
- Pray for someone you know who is going through a tough time right now; better yet, write out your prayer and send it to them – so they can know without a doubt that you were thinking of them.
If God’s Eye is on the Sparrow then it follows He’s got you covered too. There is therefore nothing wrong with spreading a little love and although our lives may not be perfect now is the time to go out and share some love; I’ve already started to forward my blessings on to others … what about you?
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38 (NIV)
