It was the Summer of 2011 and I was preparing for the annual Barbadian festival known as NIFCA (the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts). I was running out of time. What should I write about? No ideas for poetry or prose were forthcoming for days on end but then late one night I had a “my son Nathan” thought and the words leapt from my head into my fingertips and onto my laptop screen.
