Can a New Year Mean a New Life?

It’s interesting how we believe that a new year can herald a new ‘life’ just like that.  I am not saying we shouldn’t look ahead to a new or better existence.  What I am saying is that a date is just a date – unless we actively go out there and do something to make it more than just a number on a calendar.

It’s ok to do what most of us do, and that is excitedly fill our journals or iPhones with resolutions for the next 12 months only to shake our heads sadly as most are not fulfilled come December 31.  My advice?  We need to remember that life happens.  We can plan and plan and plan, but then another ‘plan’ comes along which throws our original objective way off centre.  It can be an unexpected health situation, the death of a loved one, divorce or down-sizing.  The key is to find a way to get back on track while maintaining and strengthening our hope of a greater future.

This year I’m not going to stretch or pressure myself as I usually do by setting any ‘over-awesomely-amazing’ goals for 2014.  Instead, I’m going to try to keep it real and as it says in this thought-provoking post, actively find a way to maintain as well as hold on to hope … all throughout the year instead of specifically at the beginning.

Good luck!  And may your year be simply that: YOUR year!
