“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” ~ Oprah Winfrey

So much in our lives has changed since these photos were taken, yet the memories are as fresh as yesterday.

All of the children in the first picture are grown up and do not have such a hard time keeping still while posing. You would never guess at the excessive fidgeting and fooling around that went on that afternoon from the calm-ish look on the face of the elegant lady sitting with them – my aunt and their great-aunt – on her birthday.

In the second picture I am with my ‘bestest’ girlfriend, my aunt again and this time another elegant lady – my mom. We had just celebrated another birthday and enjoyed a wonderful lunch together. We were full and happy.

My mom died in 2009 of pancreatic cancer. She was only 69. My aunt, her sister, is well into her eighties but suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease and remembers none of our beautiful moments.

These two women were key in shaping me into the woman I am today. They cheered me on during my ups and supported me during my downs. Sadly, even though fully aware of and persistently nurturing this burning dream which had lived in me for so long, they cannot share in my recent joy of becoming a best-selling author or celebrate the new friendships I now share with fellow co-authors. Yet I remain extremely grateful for having experienced life with them and more importantly through them.

As we travel this journey called life, every day a little transformation occurs in our lives no matter how small. Nothing, absolutely nothing, ever stays the same. All we can do then is to ensure we live in as well as cherish every single moment of every single day and to always, always, always be thankful.

What are you thankful for? We are grateful for comments and likes and shares 🙂

Never Stop Believing in Yourself

“Never give up on your dream … because you never know what the Lord can bless you with.”
~ Kelly Rowland

“Stay true to yourself, yet always be open to learn. Work hard, and never give up on your dreams, even when nobody else believes they can come true but you. These are not cliches but real tools you need no matter what you do in life to stay focused on your path.”
~ Phillip Sweet

Today is the last day of June. It is also the only time we will see Friday June 30, 2017 but even though the second half of the year will start from tomorrow, let’s not be disappointed or depressed if we are not as far along as originally planned for this time. Remember, you are enough! And by extension it is never, and I repeat never, ever too late to work on yourself … because even Oprah thinks this is a good idea 🙂

Do you believe Oprah Winfrey is successful? What’s your yardstick? What do you think is hers? I know that mine is hard work followed by hard work. That’s what it took for me to be able to swing two 20 lb kettlebells at the same time. When I finally got it right it was: “Success folks! Go me!”

I am not as famous as Oprah but here are 10 of her ‘Rules to Success’ – thanks to Evan Carmichael – but do they match yours? Would you add any others? Leave a comment and get this successful conversation started 🙂

“Turn your wounds into wisdom.” ~ Oprah Winfrey

“Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.” ~ Golda Meir
