I Am Afraid

I Am Afraid
(A Turkish Poem, mistakenly attributed to Shakespeare)

You say that you love rain,

but you open your umbrella when it rains.

You say that you love the sun,

but you find a shadow spot when the sun shines.

You say that you love the wind,

but you close your windows when wind blows.

This is why I am afraid,

you say that you love me too.

“There is something about words. In expert hands, manipulated deftly, they take you prisoner. Wind themselves around your limbs like spider silk, and when you are so enthralled you cannot move, they pierce your skin, enter your blood, numb your thoughts. Inside you they work their magic.”
Diane Setterfield, The Thirteenth Tale

Letters are my inspiration but the interpretation of those that form words stimulate me even more and in some instances send my brain into complete overdrive aka how many of you knew before today that there was such a thing as “Jerk Popcorn”? And did you know so many different flavours of lemonade actually existed?  Well now we definitely do … thanks to these letters and words.
