5 Promises to Help you Hold On

When I get discouraged or disappointed, I am the perfect hostess of my own pity party. It’s such a massive celebration! I whine, I complain, I agonize over what went wrong and actively invite the migraine that’s sure to invade my poor brain.

And then, I see an amazing rainbow or an awesome blue sky and I say to myself: “Self, it’s going to be ok you silly goose! You are a child of the King of Kings!”

Are you struggling with a big problem? Does it seem as though every time you see a light at the end of your tunnel someone moves the light or makes the tunnel longer? Do you support and encourage yet find no-one there for you just when you need them most? Leave me a comment if your answer to any of the above is a ‘yes’ and in the meantime, here are a few thoughts to consider for:

  1. When we look up into a blue sky of white fluffy clouds or see a beautiful rainbow, let us remember: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Psalm 19:1 (NIV)
  2. When we are sad and grieving, let us remember: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, “Behold I make all things new.” ” Revelation 21:4-5 (NIV)
  3. When we think we can wait until tomorrow or next week or next month or next year to make that call or visit a loved one or spend quality time with family, let us remember: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12 (NIV)
  4. When we want to ‘pay that person back because they wronged us’, let us remember: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21 (NIV)
  5. When it looks as though we are on the road of life alone and that God has left us, let us remember: “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”┬áDeuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)

The devil’s job is to torment and distract us. Let’s not give in; there will always be hope where there is life.
