THE JOURNEY

Life is like a long journey
Over mountains, valleys and plains
A tide of emotional feelings
Of joy and sorrow and pain.

We walk through a world of exploiters
Who never have time to care
Yet we pause on our long hard trek
To reach out, to touch and to share.

In spite of the deep dark traps
Which hide along the path
We know that the end of the rainbow
Will offer rewards that last.

Relinquish then not the sweet nectar of life
For fear you miss out on its gains
While harsh as a thorn, yet soft as a rose
We will cherish the walk through the rain.

And so we prevail through the pain and despair
Trusting in a magical light
A star it may be, or even the sun
That leads the way out of the night.

How to stop worrying … now!

We all worry. It’s natural. We worry about paying our bills, making ends meet, trying to ensure our children are safe, and whether we will live to see them grow up. There’s so much going on in the world today: wars, famines, drive by shootings, suicide bombings … seriously, how can one NOT worry? So yes, it is a fact: every single one of us is worried about something! Continue reading How to stop worrying … now!

Soon I’ll Be An Eagle!

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Isaiah 40:30-31 (NIV)

This is one of my all-time favourite verses. Yes, there are some clarifications I would like to offer to Isaiah e.g. it’s not only the youth who grow tired and weary because as we all know, it’s more often than not the older person – like myself – who may be even more tired or weary.  Yet I take the point of the message; it’s really all tied up in those four little words “hope in the Lord”.

But are you like the verse outlines? In other words, are you so tired and weary of life that you are stumbling and falling no matter what you do? Are you tired of trying to make ends meet? Are you weary of arguing with your partner or children day in and day out? Are you falling deeper and deeper into a well of never-ending To Do Lists and projects at work? Are you just about ready to faint from dealing with it all?

Well take a moment to gather yourself, to breathe deeply and to then imagine that you are conquering your problems. See your life taking an amazing turn with nothing but good times all the way. Envision yourself being lifted on the wind, soaring above the trivia of everyday living, running sure and strong towards the prize … can you see it? Can you feel it? Can you believe it? Do you want it?

We all want it! Who wants to be tired when they can be energized? Let’s renew our strength today by hoping in the Lord with all of our hearts and minds and souls. Let’s rest in Him so He can take care of us and let’s give Him our worries along with our cares at the same time … because He can handle them much better than we can ever ever hope to.

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NIV)
